In 2012, Steer Davies Gleave prepared a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategy for SANDAG and Caltrans along the North Coast Corridor (NCC), a 20+ mile stretch of planned HOV/express lanes, rail, and mobility investments along the heavily traveled Interstate 5 coastal corridor. The report studied existing travel behavior, attitudes towards transportation alternatives, and the perceived and real barriers to using alternatives.

England 2015 hosted the most successful Rugby World Cup ever, using 13 venues spread across 11 different UK cities.

Due to the nature of the tournament, with increased hospitality and media areas in place, the normal transport operations had to be changed at each venue. This involved widespread alterations to car parking, public transport and park and ride services. With matches held on different days of the week and with kick-off times ranging from midday to 8pm, spectator transport demand was anything but normal.

Transit plays a key role in shaping community growth, improving mobility, and expanding economic opportunities. Decisions to invest in high quality rapid transit are based not only on moving passengers from A to B but also on their impact on urban change and renewal. So what are the benefits of developing a Land Value Capture (LVC) strategy to help with funding?

Many cities and regions are planning for a future with more intensified land use that provides key developments around transit hubs and stations — Transit Oriented Developments (TOD) — as anchors of compact walkable urban centers with complete streets.

Technology is shaping the future of transportation and slowly making it easier to leave the car at home or not own a car at all. Technology, mainly smartphone driven, is making it easier to leave the car at home by getting rid of unnecessary ‘friction’ when planning and paying for transport – be it simply requesting a rideshare on your phone or using an app to pay for bus tickets. LA is taking notice of this and, in particular, those who are supplying the services.
