The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is a 23-mile long toll facility that spans the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, connecting the Delmarva Peninsula and the Hampton Roads area. Plans to expand the bridge-tunnel are currently underway in an effort to improve levels of service, safety and capacity for all travelers.

California is currently exploring opportunities to take the state's current passenger rail system to a level where passenger rail and connecting modes act as an integrated system with seamless door-to-door travel.

Passenger rail and connecting transit systems serving specific local or regional markets have typically evolved over decades. Especially in California, geographic and topographic constraints are major factors impacting the development of rail infrastructure and services, leaving little room for expanding local passenger rail systems to a statewide level.

In July 2015, Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) in Colorado unanimously adopted their Regional Nonmotorized Modes Plan. Steer Davies Gleave guided the development of the study from 2013 to 2015, with the intention of producing a plan that would not only make a difference in Pikes Peak, but also advance regional active modes planning across the USA.
