Planning a sustainable future for Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, sustainable future
Abu Dhabi is predicting a huge population and tourism boom over the next 20 years. With this in mind, the Government of Abu Dhabi has recently published Vision 2030, setting out their development plans to transform the Emirate.
Critical to this vision is the development of an integrated transport system to ensure Abu Dhabi becomes a sustainable city on a global scale.
With the current population relying heavily on cars to move about the city, a comprehensive, multi-modal public transport systemis required to achieve this.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport commissioned Steer Davies Gleave, together with Mott MacDonald, to prepare the Surface Transport Masterplan (STMP).
The masterplan includes a coordinated set of policies and a detailed transport plan for Abu Dhabi covering road, bus, ferry, railway, mass transit, freight and non-motorised modes of transport.
How we did it
Steer Davies Gleave is proud to be a part of what is an exiting time for Abu Dhabi and to be helping the Emirate meet the challenges facing it over the next 20 years.
To date, we have:
- provided advice on determining a coordinated set of planning and policy scenarios for the masterplan time period
- developed a multi-modal transport model to test these various scenarios. The state-of-the-art model is capable of evaluating and comparing the full range of impacts of alternative policy and planning options that will be developed through the STMP
- developed an institutional framework with which to deliver the agreed policies and transport infrastructure
