PATH Extension to the Northeast Corridor Rail Link Station at Newark Liberty International Airport

Steer Davies Gleave provided the ridership and revenue analysis for the proposed PATH extension to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The proposed service would continue from Newark Pennsylvania Station to EWR where users could connect to the existing monorail for access to the airport terminals. 

Our work also involved conducting a large stated preference survey at EWR and the other major regional airports — JFK and LaGuardia. The resulting demand model estimated from the surveys was the basis for an airport choice and airport access demand model, one of the few such demand models estimated, and one of an even fewer number used to guide planning decision-making.

In addition, our team is also using the New Jersey Transit travel demand forecasting model to develop forecasts for non-airport users who would be potential users of the proposed PATH service extension. Finally, we developed a separate model to estimate the use of the PATH service by airport employees.

The ridership and revenue forecasts prepared by Steer Davies Gleave will have multiple uses, including justification of the investment, helping in the definition of the proposed service and underpinning the environmental impact assessment.
